CALL TO WORSHIP: Worship Leader and Congregation

Leader:  Beloved, God calls us to come together in love.

People:  Love is from God.

Leader:  We all are called to live in God’s love.

People:  Love is from God.

Leader:  When we live in God’s love, our love overflows.

People:  Love is from God.

Leader:  Let us worship together in love.  Amen.

God of love, you have invited us to this time and space.  We lift our hearts in thanksgiving and joyful praise for the gift of your love.  God of life, you have invited us here to place all that we have and all that we are in you.  Through the power of your Holy Spirit, guide us to not only lift up our hearts in worship, but to offer our hearts in love.  Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION: Worship Leader and Congregation

Beloved, let us love one another.  But only if others deserve to be loved.  Lord, have mercy.  Those who say, “I love God,” and hate their brothers or sisters, are liars. But we only hate the really bad people.  Christ have mercy.  Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another.  The truth is, we have trouble believing anyone is worthy of God’s love, including ourselves.  Lord, have mercy.  There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.  But sometimes love just isn’t enough.  God, help us, through the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ, to comprehend the power of your love.  Lord, we are ready to live in your love.  (Silence). Amen.

Hear these words from Jesus, God’s gift of love to us: “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”  Jesus was sent by God to offer us new life.  In love, know that you are forgiven.  In Christ, you are empowered to live in the freedom of love!  Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING: 1 Samuel 30:4-8 – Pastor Anthony Jenkins, Sr.

Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep. And David’s two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite, had been taken captive. Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. Then David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” And Abiathar brought the ephod to David. So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.
