CALL TO WORSHIP:  Worship Leader and Congregation

Leader:  The same God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give us knowledge.

People:  When a creative word or vision is rare, God Speaks nonetheless.

Leader:   When words become law, yet fail to feed and heal, the word made flesh risks action.

People:   May word and words empower us this hour.

Leader:    Let us worship God.  Amen.

OPENING PRAYER: Worship Leader and Congregation

Mold us today, O God, we pray.  Sculpt us as your jars of clay.  Brimming with Spirit, alive and new: Visible bearers of life, of you.  Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION: Worship Leader and Congregation

Creator God, we find comfort in your eternal greatness, a greatness so vast we cannot imagine it.  We find solace in your presence with us, even when we ask     you for it.  Despite that comfort, and despite our best intentions, we are sometimes captive to a narrowness of spirit—a narrowness that harms or excludes those you call us to love.  Knowing that you know this, we stretch out our hands to you for healing.  Amen.

God has formed, searched and known us.  God is with us wherever we go. God holds us fast in a love so vast we can never outrun it.  Let us live in the confidence of this healing love.  Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING: John 14:16-20 – Worship Leader

16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another [a]Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive,  because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. 19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.
