CALL TO WORSHIP: Worship Leader and Congregation

Leader:  Out of the depths, O Lord, we cry to you.

People:  O God, hear our prayers and supplications.

Leader:  Let your ears hear the anguish of our pleas.

People:  For you alone our souls wait with longing.

Leader:  Wait for the Lord, more than those who wait for the morning.

People:  We place our hope in you, O God, and in the power of your     steadfast love.

Leader:  Come! Let us worship/pray.

People:  Amen.

OPENING PRAYER: Worship Leader and Congregation

We turn to you for healing, O God; bless us this day.  Give us the strength to fall on our knees and lay our petitions at your feet as we worship you this day.  Grant us the courage to reach out our hands and touch the hem of your robe, that we may be made well.  May your power flow into our bodies and soothe our minds and spirits, as we place our faith in you, through Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION: Worship Leader and Congregation

It is easy to scoff, Merciful One, when we behold those with unflinching faith and unquestioned assurance of your power.  How often have we        laughed, like the mourners in Jairus’s house, when told that death will be swallowed up in the power of your love?  Heal not only our illnesses and ailments, Holy One; heal our fickleness of heart and the inconstancy of our faith.  As we yearn for your healing touch, help us wait with deep longing, more than those who wait for the morning.  Amen.

Place your hope in God, our source of life.  For God is the Great Physician, whose steadfast love has the power to redeem.  Give thanks to the One who hears our prayers and makes us well.  Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING: 1 Chronicles 21:21-25    (MSG) Pastor Anthony Jenkins, Sr.

20-21 Meanwhile Ornan had quit threshing the wheat and was watching the angel; his four sons took cover and hid. David came up to Ornan. When Ornan saw David, he left the threshing floor and bowed deeply before David,    honoring the king. 22 David said Ornan, “Give me the site of the threshing floor so I can build an altar to God. Charge me the market price; we’re going to put an end to this disaster.” 23 “O Master, my king,” said Ornan, “just take it; do whatever you want with it! Look, here’s an ox for the burnt offering and threshing paddles for the fuel and wheat for the meal offering—it’s all yours!”24-25 David replied to Ornan, “No. I’m buying it from you, and at the full market price. I’m not going to offer God sacrifices that are no sacrifice.” So David bought the place from Ornan for six hundred shekels of gold.
